|
Golf on the Gulf: Dubai and Abu Dhabi |
 |
For the last 20 years, one burgeoning desert-born metropolis
of steel, gold and sand, has captured the world's business
elite. Dubai is a marvel of modernity and innovation,
continuing to push the very limits of modern design and
man’s capabilities. Traditionally, the tourism industry in
Dubai has catered to that single dimension, but in the last
decade, the money and the minds that have built Dubai and
now Abu Dhabi too, have
found room for play.
Along with the Emirates Club and the Abu Dhabi Golf Club,
new layouts like the Els Course, Gary Player's Saadiyat
Island and Kyle Phillips' Yas Links are turning the UAE into
one of the world’s foremost golf destinations. Like the past
two champions of the Dubai Desert Classic, Lee Westwood and
Irish sensation Rory McIlroy, Dubai’s golf scene has one
foot in the present, and the other firmly in the future.
Paired with some of the cultural fascinations of the Middle
East, including an evening desert safari to a Bedouin
campsite, complete with camel rides, a traditional, catered
Arab dining experience, and post-show entertainment under
the Arabian Desert night sky, join us to discover the Dubai
that time, nature and man built.
A short drive down the coast takes us to another of the
seven Emirates, Abu Dhabi.
Destined to be a global hub of international commerce,
culture, and tourism, Saayidat is home to the recently
constructed Louvre Abu Dhabi and a Frank Gehry-designed
Guggenheim, multiple six- and seven-star (!) luxury hotel
resorts, and the only seaside golf course on the Arabian
Gulf.
Between tee times, beach time, and tours of modern
architectural masterpieces, we will also find time to
explore the spiritual at Zaved Mosque, the sixth largest in
the world and a reminder of the Emirates’ historic roots.
An exercise in contrasts, join us to discover the new and
old, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. |
